For more than thirty years, the credit card debt bill for all Americans has gone in only one direction: up and up and up. Indeed, most commentators on economic conditions have warned that the financial strength of the United States will inevitably suffer as a result since other nations examine the solvency of our citizens as an indicator of the hea... With the economic crises affecting consumers in Georgia and across the country continuing to spiral out of control, more and more borrowers are concentrating on reducing their own credit card balances and putting an end to unsecured debt loads. Unfortunately, Georgian borrowers that have let credit accounts grow too large generally choose either to overly focus in on their highest interest bills (thereby ignoring the secured loans and perhaps risking foreclosure or repossession of their most valuable assets) or avoid the problem completely (the ostrich or head in the sand approach which rarely ends well). Once debt loads have risen to such a level that a household cannot easily envision any way to satisfy their lenders within, say, a five year period, it’s admittedly tempting to just stop answering the phone altogether – so that collection agents or creditor representatives will not continue to harass them – and throw away bills without even opening them. However, for lasting relief from these obligations, a dedicated strategy of debt management intended to liquidate the worst bills while not forgetting about long term secured obligations (which, for tax purposes, may even seem desirable to continue as long as possible) should be utilized. Again, the important enemy should always be short term or revolving debts with high rates of interest, and Georgia borrowers serious about household financial stability must make these loans a priority. This will not always be easy to accomplish, though, and, as a result, the assistance of debt specialists – whether bankruptcy lawyers, Consumer Credit Counselors, debt consolidation loan officers, or debt settlement professionals – may be useful or even necessary for successful debt relief.

All of these forms of debt relief revolve around a system of repayment that lowers interest rates and, ideally, reduces the actual balances owed by the Georgia consumers, and each once contains their own advantages and disadvantages. Chapter 7 debt elimination bankruptcy, if successfully declared, shall obviously have the greatest consequences to appropriate credit accounts (and the procedure takes only a few months for the discharge to be finalized) though, as we shall show, there are repercussions above and beyond the destruction of credit ratings. Consumer Credit Counseling features almost the same ruinous effects to credit reports and FICO scores. Debt consolidation mortgage loans, while lowering interest much as any of these programs could hope to accomplish, threaten home equity in a time of plummeting Georgia real estate and push the debts out to twenty or thirty or sometimes forty year terms. Debt settlement negotiation, though it’s far less well known to Georgia families otherwise unfamiliar with hard line debt management solutions, has demonstrated overwhelming praise from those Georgian households who’ve experimented with the (relatively new, compared to bankruptcy) approach. Debt settlement, much as the program shall contain its own costs and credit rating repercussions, genuinely seems to be the best solution available for Georgian consumers aching to rid themselves of lingering credit card bills and similar unsecured debt burdens. If successful, debt settlement negotiations shall liquidate affected bills far quicker than debt consolidation and Consumer Credit Counseling, and debt settlement professionals will charge much less out of pocket than bankruptcy attorneys.
