But time marches on, and the U.S... (READ MORE)

Illinois Debt Relief

Throughout the greater Chicago area (and, for that matter, throughout all parts of Illinois), recent economic difficulties, from rising unemployment to plummeting real estate values, have negatively impacted households of every demographic within the state, and, with the average credit card balances for each resident of Illinois approaching five figure dollar values, the demand for an effective and lasting approach to debt relief seems to be greater than ever before. Over the past decade, despite the surrounding expansion of the national economy and accompanying rise in standards of living for Illinois citizens and all Americans, the new availability of credit has led so many consumers to spend more than they could afford. Much as the non stop purchasing aided the increase of our gross national product and found new jobs for workers in Illinois, escalating financial obligations among personal consumers inevitably weakened the United States as a whole. The Illinois borrowers that we have spoken with over the past few months have seen their bills (from credit payments to utilities to ordinary cost of living expenses like food and gas) spike just as their incomes lessened, and the desire for a relief of personal debts continues to grow state wide. Unfortunately, changes to the federal bankruptcy code essentially eliminated Chapter 7 – the debt liquidation program that most people think of when bankruptcy is considered – as a possible debt relief solution for many borrowers regardless of their needs. While the alterations to bankruptcy protection have disappointed many Illinois residents in the past few years, particularly the Illinois workers that have maintained decent incomes during the economic downturn compared to the other consumers in the state, there are new debt relief alternatives available that every borrower who wishes to protect their family should learn more about.

There’s a new maneuver, though, that has had a great deal of success with Illinois borrowers truly interested in debt relief. With debt settlement, professionals trained in financial negotiation speak with the reps which have been trained by the credit card companies, and, should things go well during these negotiations, the creditors agree to lower the amount of funds that they are owed by as much as two thirds of the initial balance. These companies negotiate with the lenders in attempts to reduce the amount of the consumer debt owed (by as much as sixty five percent), and, if the creditors agree to lower the financial burdens, the debt settlement firm handles the transition of all remaining balances from their clients to their clients’ creditors. In return, the creditors shall send information to the three main credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian) that the borrowers are paying off their loans, and, once all of the debts have been fully relieved, they will report the debts as having been completely satisfied. Of course, nothing comes for free, and there shall still be a significant amount of money that the debt settlement company will collect from any Illinois consumer who signs on for this program. However, since the potential savings are so very great, this should certainly not turn any prospective Illinois customers away. Much as this version of debt relief may seem too good to be true, thousands of Illinois borrowers have found the settlement tactics an effective solution to aid their households with the eradication of all unsecured debt burdens. While bankruptcy protection no longer serves the needs of most borrowers in Illinois, debt settlement specialists – through utilizing the idea of Chapter 7 bankruptcy to bind lenders into an agreement that cuts the credit card debts in half – exacerbate those fears to the benefit of their clients.

The debt settlement program confronts credit card representatives with the potential of Chapter 7 debt relief bankruptcies on the part of the Illinois borrower. To a very real extent following the weaknesses of the United States bankruptcy code, this may be an empty bluff. Considering that most residents of Illinois who have maintained decent employment the year prior to their debt relief attempts would be far better served in trying some form of debt relief on their own behalf without indulging the threats of property seizure or costs of bankruptcy attorney firms (not to mention the destruction of credit ratings), the lenders are essentially forced to at least think about the possibility of Chapter 7 debt relief bankruptcy protection for their Illinois clients. Through a series of negotiations, debt settlement specialists work with the creditor minions – in a way far more insistent than anything seen by Consumer Credit Counseling professionals given that the debt settlement workers have nothing to gain from placating the credit card conglomerates – to figure out just what the creditors would be willing to give up and what the debtors would be able to pay back (and how quickly). This must be understood by every Illinois consumer who even thinks about the potential of successful settlement negotiation as a road toward debt relief.
